LGFA
We launched our sponsorship with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) in 2016 and since then have invested over €5m in the LGFA and its local communities to support hundreds of schools and clubs through the provision or jerseys, equipment and cash funding.
We also commissioned the first Irish-based research into how sport participation impacts the lives of women and the factors that influence dropout. Worryingly the research revealed that by the age of 13, one in two girls will have dropped out of sport and are three times more like to drop out of sport than boys. Since then, one of the primary objectives of our sponsorship of the LGFA has been to encourage more young girls to participate and stay in sport. Our nationwide Lidl #SeriousSupport Schools Programme was launched in 2019 and aims to tackle dropout rates of girls in the junior cert cycle by delivering inspirational assembly talks and skill-building workshops with inter-county ladies footballers from around the country.
More recently, in 2021, we launched our new campaign to promote the partnership entitled Level The Playing Field. At Lidl, we want to create change for this and future generations of LGFA stars by helping them to Level The Playing Field. That’s why we introduced the LGFA stamp card rewards scheme. The scheme provides every single club in Ireland with the opportunity to raise up to €20,000 by using their Lidl Plus app when shopping in store. In year one, over €375,000 in cash funding and new jerseys were distributed to 362 clubs in every county in the country and we look forward to seeing more clubs rewarded in 2022 and beyond.
