Driving our partnership through local fundraising, regional initiatives and participation, our employees have co-ordinated multiple local and national fundraisers, including Superhero Saturday, Lidl’s Got Talent, Jump for Jigsaw (an exciting skydive), The Bakery (a pop-up café that moved around four locations in Ireland offering a space for people to talk and enjoy a break from life), and The Pumpkin Patch (a family fun event in aid of Jigsaw at Halloween). We also couldn’t forget our biggest fundraiser each year, the Lidl Trolley Dash which has raised a total of over €2 million since our first year in 2014. We have a network of over 240 charity ambassadors across the business, we call them our Jigsaw Heroes and we couldn’t do it without them. This collaborative approach has raised just over €2 million for Jigsaw to date while also creating stronger awareness for the organisation. It has also brought huge benefits to our own staff, we completed the One Good Manager programme to learn more about mental health at work and how we can help.
Lidl One Good Club™ is a five-step youth mental health awareness programme for local clubs, developed in partnership with the LGFA and Jigsaw – The National Centre for Youth Mental Health, which aims to raise awareness and improve understanding of mental health while empowering LGFA clubs to positively affect their members and communities.
The 5 steps are based on Jigsaw’s 5-a-day for your mental health framework that provides a simple set of evidence-based actions for people to improve their wellbeing. The 5 steps are Be Active, Take Notice, Give, Keep Learning, and Connect.
The programme offers clubs from every county the opportunity to support their members and local communities by engaging in activities that promote positive mental health and wellbeing.
This year’s programme culminated on All-Ireland Final day when groups from every participating club came to Croke Park and a representative from each club was presented with their Lidl One Good Club accreditation plaque on the hallowed turf during half time of the senior final between Meath and Kerry.
All our fundraising is supporting Jigsaw’s secondary school programme, One Good School. In over 80 secondary schools up and down the country, Jigsaw are launching the One Good School™, a completely new and comprehensive approach aimed at supporting the mental health and well-being of young people by developing a shared responsibility for mental health across the whole school community.
When keeping an eye out for signs a young person may be struggling remember – what is typical for one young person is not the same as for another and that you are looking for signs of changes in their usual behaviour or demeanour. Signs may include…
Jigsaw passionately believe that with your help we can bring about an Ireland where every young person’s mental health is valued and supported.
Through their 13 services in communities across Ireland they provide early intervention mental health supports to young people aged 12-25. Their services are designed in consultation with young people to be a welcoming place young people can visit for free information and support from trained mental health professionals. If a young person wants support, Jigsaw service teams are there to listen, without making judgements, and to provide supportive guidance. They also provide information and advice to anyone who is worried about a friend or young person in their life.
Jigsaw also provide a range of specialist education and training programmes in schools, workplaces and community groups which aim to encourage understanding and increase knowledge about youth mental health and the support their services can offer.
