We are proud to partner with Family Carers Ireland, the national charity dedicated to supporting family carers and young carers in Ireland. Through this partnership, we have pledged to raise €1 million and grow national awareness of the 500,000+ people caring for loved ones with additional needs in our communities all over Ireland.
Caring for a loved one can be rewarding, but it can also be difficult, frightening and isolating. It shouldn’t be.
Family Carers Ireland (FCI) wants carers to know they have the support they need to care safely, to make it less of a battle and to know they are not alone. They are the national charity supporting family carers and young carers across the country who care for loved ones such as children or adults with additional needs, physical or intellectual disabilities, frail older people, those with palliative care needs or those living with chronic illnesses, mental health challenges or addiction. Their mission is to highlight the contribution of family carers to Irish society and to improve the lives of family carers throughout the country.
Lidl are supporting FCI with this mission by helping to raise awareness of family carers and encourage those with caring responsibilities to self-identify as family carers and link in with FCI for support. Many family carers fail to identify as such and simply see themselves as a mum, dad, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, grandparent, etc. In order to seek out the supports and services that can make a real difference to their lives, they must first recognise themselves as family carers.
As a not-for-profit organisation, FCI supports family carers and young carers through the provision of free emergency care planning, counselling, specialised training and education programmes, wellbeing support, crisis management, emergency respite/respite provision, advocacy, peer support groups, information on rights and entitlements and many other worthwhile initiatives. Visit www.familycarers.ie to learn more.
Not only are we aiming to raise funds to help FCI, but we are also aiming to raise national awareness of family caring by encouraging all of our customers and colleagues to SEE CARERS. If you are not in a caring role, you could be tomorrow, and we want to ensure you know where to turn to for support and guidance.
No-one should have to care alone. To learn about our partnership and the how you can support family carers, please click here.
We are proud to partner with Jigsaw – The National Centre for Youth Mental Health. Through this partnership, we have pledged to raise €2.5 million by partnership end in 2024 and grow national awareness for youth mental health.
Mental health can affect every aspect of a young person’s life. We believe every young person must have the support that’s right for them, whatever they are going through. We all need be there to support young people with their mental health, but we also need to ensure we look after our own mental health, because we cannot support others, . If we don’t support ourselves/ if we do not first support ourselves
Lidl are supporting Jigsaw, and Jigsaw support us all to find ways to support our mental health, so we can be there to support our young people. Visit www.Jigsaw.ie to explore the range of services and supports available for young people, their parents, family members, friends, teachers, coaches and colleagues. Their services range from phone support live chat, video call support, email support, group chats, online supportive content, webinars, plus, much, much more.
Lidl Ireland is committed to match the Living Wage as recommended by the Living Wage Technical Group for the Republic of Ireland. This decision will increase hourly pay for more than 4,200 colleagues in the Republic of Ireland from 1st March 2023 – an investment of €7.5 million by the business. This year’s Living Wage recommendation is €13.85. The Living Wage is an independently assessed and recommended rate of income considered necessary to have a socially acceptable standard of living. Its adoption is voluntary, and organisations are free to choose whether to implement it.
This is the second increase to pay rates that we have announced this year and is in recognition of the ongoing hard work and dedication of store and warehouse colleagues, particularly as the cost-of-living crisis continues.
Lidl Ireland was the first major nationwide employer to commit to paying the Living Wage in 2015, and we are proud to continue this commitment in Ireland and Northern Ireland to date.
At Lidl we play an important role in helping to tackle modern slavery. It is our responsibility to understand the risks within both our business and supply chains and to ensure that our management of these risks is effective.
We must also ensure that any identified issues are effectively remediated with all necessary support provided to affected victims. We work closely with our suppliers and expert partners on this complex and systemic issue.
We are delighted to be the first major retailer in the world to offer free period products in stores nationwide to anyone across the country affected by period poverty in partnership with Homeless Period Ireland and The Simon Communities of Ireland. The initiative will see the us offer a dedicated coupon for a free box of sanitary pads or tampons per customer each month through Lidl Plus. We have also committed to quarterly donations of these products to The Simon Communities to ensure people experiencing homelessness – who may not have access to a smartphone – can access these essential products.
