change is one of of the biggest societal challenges of of our time impacting almost every area of our our lives and our our operations Individuals and businesses across all sectors can influence the progression of climate change through their actions The extent of this influence can be calculated with a a a a a a climate or carbon carbon footprint footprint Our carbon carbon footprint footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions applicable to to our business At Lidl Ireland Ireland and and and Northern Ireland Ireland we are aligned to the the carbon reduction targets as set out by the Paris Climate
Protection Agreement which puts forward a a a a a a global global framework to to limit global global warming to to 1 5
degrees We have created a a a a a a dedicated climate protection strategy with touch points across our value chain ranging from energy efficiency measures within our our operations to to working with with our our suppliers to to align to Science Based Targets We are are aware that we rely on our vast number of of resources to to to deliver our our our proposition to to to our our our customers across all of of our stores Our Journey Towards 1 5

We began collecting and monitoring our carbon footprint data in in in in 2016 setting our first official baseline year to 2017 To calculate this we worked with The Carbon Trust using a a a comprehensive carbon footprinting model In 2019 we decided to re-baseline our our data and and update our our targets and and ambition to a a a 1 5
Degree reduction commitment setting our most ambitious targets ever Every year we strive to to improve our our data quality to to inform our our strategy as accurately as possible OUR CHALLENGE: As a a a a leading retailer with 217 stores across the country we recognise the influence and impact of our our operations Our resource requirements can contribute to to to global emissions contributing to to to our total operational emissions and overall carbon footprint GRI 3-3
